News: Changelog

OS upgrades - finished (for now)

Here's the final update regarding the OS upgrades for now:

Valdivia and Johannesburg are back online. Frankfurt (01) is back online as well with an updated IP address.

Replacing the Fremont (01) resolver by a new resolver in San Jose is still pending.

Düsseldorf (01) will stay as-is for now. The provider doesn't offer me an option to install a newer OS at the moment. For good measure, please switch to Düsseldorf (02).

OS upgrades - current status

Things didn't go as smooth as expected, so here's the current status:

These resolvers will remain offline until further notice:

These got stuck in the OS installation process and I'm waiting for the providers to get back to me.

These resolvers will be back online within the next hour:

Upcoming OS Upgrades

We will be performing scheduled operating system upgrades across several resolvers.
The maintenance window is:

Friday, December 5th — 09:00–13:00 UTC

Most resolvers will undergo in-place upgrades without any IP address or key changes. Some locations will see replacements, IP changes, or decommissioning — details are below.

Resolvers Upgraded Without IP Changes

The following resolvers will be upgraded in place.
No configuration changes are required.

Resolvers With IP Changes

Two resolvers will receive updated IP addresses:

Please update your configurations accordingly once the new IPs are published.

Resolvers Being Replaced (IP Change Required)

These resolvers will be migrated to new infrastructure.
New IP addresses will be announced after deployment.

Resolvers Being Decommissioned

Fremont → Replaced by San Jose

The Fremont resolver will be retired and replaced by a new resolver in the nearby San Jose area. Update your configuration to Fremont 02 or the new San Jose resolver when it becomes available.

Minneapolis – Decommissioned on Dec 22, No Direct Replacement

The Minneapolis resolver will be permanently removed on December 22.
No direct regional replacement is planned since I haven't been able to find a suitable provider in that area.

Further updates, including new IP addresses, will be published upon deployment.

Issues in Fremont and Dusseldorf

One of our resolvers in Fremont (fet01.dnscry.pt) is offline. The provider canceled all services in that location without prior notice earlier today. I'm looking for a replacement and will bring it back online shortly. In the meantime, please switch to other resolvers in that region.

dus02.dnscry.pt is unreachable over IPv4 at the moment. Its IP address has been changed by the provider which I was unaware of. This will be resolved shortly.

Moving away from just.hosting

We have used the servers of the provider just.hosting at four locations. Unfortunately, I have had several unpleasant interactions with their support recently, where contradictory and clueless statements were made. This costs time, nerves, and does not help solve the issues with the servers.

Therefore, we have decided not to continue working with just.hosting. For this reason, the IP addresses for the following locations have changed:

Additionally, the IP addresses for Naaldwijk, Fremont and Newcastle have also changed.

We have also activated new resolvers in four locations: Manila, Bangkok, Amsterdam and Allendale County.
